The life of Betty Dawson, a resident at Legacy Village of Athens, is a shining example of faith, kindness, and a heart that’s always ready to serve.

Her favorite hymn, “At Calvary,” has long been the soundtrack of her deep love for the Lord and the foundation of her faith. Betty treasured attending church with her family and devoted many years to Kids Ministry, where she poured encouragement and care into young hearts.

For 15 years, Betty worked as a paraprofessional in an elementary school, where her patience and gentle kindness made every child feel seen and supported. She had a special gift for making kids feel valued and safe.

But Betty’s story isn’t just about quiet moments of care—she’s also an adventurer at heart. Alongside her husband of 59 years, she hit the open road to visit all 50 states, collecting stories, laughter, and memories along the way. Closer to home, she loved the energy of UGA football tailgates, cheering on the Dawgs with friends who have become like family.

Betty’s servant’s heart is well-known around here. She’s the kind of person who shows up, rain or shine. Whether visiting the elderly or comforting someone who’s sick, she rarely comes empty-handed—often bringing her famous blueberry crunch or mini pigs in a blanket, little treats that brighten any day.

Her life is a beautiful blend of faith, love, and devotion—to family, to community, and to the simple joys of service. We’re grateful to celebrate Betty and the warmth she brings to Legacy Village every day.

Social connection plays a powerful role in protecting mental and emotional well-being as we age, yet it is often one of the first things to fade when seniors live alone.
